in an animated racing scene. He describes the horse as “the most beautiful, elegant and powerful of creatures’” and these compelling works convey each of these attributes with eloquence and panache. Working initially from life he sketches and photographs extensively before using a combination of oils, pastels and other drawing materials to create something vibrant and spontaneous in response to the material he has built up. Gary’s personal technique is unorthodox to say the least.
